Landscape is one of the easiest of all photographic subjects. Basically you need to do is find a nice/compelling view in the right lighting and snap away. Look a little closer at landscape images that hold you attention. Though, it requires mastery, patience and certain frame of mind to capture imagery.

  1. Start with a vision for what you want to achieve, keep yourself motivated
  2. Quality is better than Quantity
  3. Plan the location, leading lines, good foreground, lighting, angle of view timing for the shoot etc.
  4. Shooting closer to sunrise & sunset can help you to get better results
  5. Use Canon 5D Mark III or Canon 7D for the shoot to get best results or any other equivalent camera
  6. My go to lens is Canon 16-35 f /2.8 L (good for day light) or EF 24 f/1.4L (good for late evening/night time)
  7. Use ISO of 100 to 200 for best results
  8. Use slower shutter speed 1/15 of second to 1/125 of second
  9. Use Wide Angle/Tele Photo lenses with small aperture opening f11 to f 22
  10.   Use Photographic Filters to bring contrast in your pic, create a visual balance
  11.   Use a remote cable release or the self timer to increase sharpness
  12.   Choose your composition to shoot – use natural frames – use hyper focal distance – also use histogram
  13.   Capture the real Moment – the action i.e. water flowing, waves on beach, birds flying in the sky, moving clouds – step into the images
  14.   User Water as mirror for reflection & consider the sky for blue effect
  15.   Go out and shoot on misty morning or evening sun set
  16.   Take account of people emotions
  17.   You may follow the rule of third, but it is not necessary
  18.   Make use of Tripod for image stabilization
  19.   Be Patient to capture the best – you need to work with weather
  20.   Change your point of view – Find more interesting point of view to shoot – find visually compelling locations by moving out of comfort zone
  21.   Be an Artistic, Technical Expert & Photographer at the same time – it is matter of practice
  22.   Once you at outdoor, make sure to protect your gears due to sudden change in weather conditions
  23.   Be careful once you are out there – don’t venture too much & don’t put your self to risk
  24.   Don’t try to include everything in one shot – Creating a striking composition is often as much about, what you leave out of the frame as what you include
  25.   You can also use black & white texture for the landscape pictures
  26.   Don’t shy away from visiting same location, you may discover different things at different time frame
  27.   Discover Minimalism, Explore Abstract Details – keep experimenting
  28.   Shoot in RAW format to capture more in better quality for the post editing table
  29.   Get Creative with your camera moments, if need be take a panoramic images by stitching multiple images capture together
  30.   For safety precautions, you must always keep someone informed about your whereabouts, Carry sufficient food & water & Suitable clothing for environment of intended destination.
