Maternity Photography captures the period of time while a lady is pregnant. Maternity Shoot is all about story telling so engage with family/pets/lady for creating emotions & also to tell the story about little baby eminent arrival. These sessions are fun, where you capture one of the earliest moments of child life

  1. Define your composition, Keep it natural, simple & fun
  2. For maternity shoot, use 50 mm to 100 mm lens with f/1.2 to f/2.8. Avoid using wide-angle lenses
  3. Play with natural/soft lights & shadows
  4. Get the couple close to each other, highlight the emotions
  5. Choose the location – Studio/Home/Outdoor
  6. Select Wardrobe (Casual Apparel – Loose/Strachey fitting wears is recommended) Avoid Floral/Plaids and checks)
  7. Select suitable Props like Tiny Chair, Globe, Balloons, Umbrella, Bunch of Flowers, Sign Board (Bump Ahead), Baby Clothes, Book and Little shoes etc.
  8. Get creative with your camera & angles. Think of using 45 Degree angle to have impact. Don’t shoot straight or from below/lower angle
  9. Focus on Belly as baby bump profiling itself is the subject
  10. When/Time is also important, the best time is last trimester or before 35th week, the ideal period for maternity shoot is week 32nd -35th
  11. Select Standing (Flattering) Vs Sitting (More Relaxed) mode for shoot
  12. Engage family into shoot, include the young one’s/pets if they are there
  13. Make lady to feel beautiful – bring the beauty out of her…. be careful & genuine in your communication especially in this world of Sexual Harassment
  14. Try some abstract shots
  15. To Bare or not to Bare – that is the question, which has to be answered by the lady based on her comfort… You can shoot bare belly or with clothes on depends upon comfort level of lady
  16. Distract with Daddy/Family/Pets
  17. Maternity Shoot is a serious business so take it very seriously. Make sure that the lady is comfortable & not to put her in odd poses where she feels difficulty
  18. You can get ultra sound along with to capture Mom & Baby together in one shot
  19. Avoid any glare, flash or extra direct lighting. Follow the natural light
  20. Apply little lotion on the belly for shining, if you are taking bare belly shots, moisturize your knees & elbows
  21. Hands are important, get it manicure or light polish for a finished look in close up of hands near belly
  22. Avoid double chin in the shoot, if required tilt the head little bit
  23. Make sure to remove tight fittings clothes, watches, bracelets etc. at least two hours before the shoot to avoid any skin marks during shoot
  24. Avoid Background Clutter, don’t keep too many things around
  25. The best sleep position during pregnancy is “SOS” (sleep on side). Even better is to sleep on your left side. Sleeping on your left side will increase the amount of blood and nutrients that reach the placenta and baby. Keep your legs and knees bent, and put a pillow between legs
  26. Outdoor shoot can be best captured during sunrise or sunset time especially near the beaches or near the forests
  27. Use a combination of black & white silhouette for effective contrast
