Have Confidence before shooting Make sure to charge battery & have enough Memory Card/ Films to shoot Travel light Pick up the right lens for your camera shoot Make sure to set the camera setting – RAW/JPEG/ISO /Aperture/Exposure/Single or Multiple release/Shutter Speed etc. Prefer to shoot in RAW so that you can do post processing Check your white balance/depth of field etc. Check your lens & filters for any foreign particles such as dust/sand/Moisture Zoom in & check the distracting elements in your frame, if any Take more & more pictures to gain your skills Lock your composition, tripod & rotating head position Fill the Frame with what you like Have a concept in mind… Eliminate Distractions…. Get closure to subject Simplify & Exaggerate Don’t always center your object Create depth in your picture to pull people/object in your picture Connect the dots, build a story line Perspective is everything Light is everything Bounce the flash Break the rules for experiment Get to know your model, if you are going for portraits Using lens hood is not necessary Using filter is not worthy… it only protect lens and add no value Always be ready for your shots Create your own […]

Basic Photography

Photography has 3 basic elements i.e. Shutter Speed, Aperture & ISO. It ‘s represented as a triangle because if you change any of setting, the others will need to be compensated Shutter speed is the length of time the shutter is open, the difference could be tenths of a second Aperture is the amount of light let into camera. Think of window, the more light gets through and the room is brighter ISO is the sensitivity to the light. The higher the ISO number the quicker the sensor reacts to light. In old days, this was the film speed Each one has to be compensated, it depends on lighting, lens, subject, artistic choice Understand CELL… C – Compositions, E- Exposure L – Lens L- Light Focus on Composition, remove the clutter, Get Closure & Crop as tightly as possible Put Subject off – center/rule of thirds Create impact by using frames & real or inferred lines 7 Rules to follow for experimentation: Leading Lines, Rule of Thirds, Filling the frame, Framing the subject, Unusual Angle/View points, Depth of Field, Symmetry & Texture Create Contrast – Hard v/s Soft light Too much light creates an over bright image with white spots: […]

It works 99% of the time Avoid Camera Shake Follow the Sunny 16 rule, Shutter speed 1/100, Aperture F/16, IS0 100, Flash not fired Use a Polarization Filter to reduce reflection Create a sense of Depth Use Simple & plain backgrounds Don’t use flash indoors Choose the right ISO Use PAN (Panning) to create motion Experiment with your shutter speed Look the subject in the eyes Use Flash outdoors as well Move in close to smaller subjects Move subject away from the middle Lock the Focus Use exposure compensation Use aperture priority mode Know your flash range to be effective Watch the other sources of light Must take some picture vertical Be creative/innovative with pictures Avoid using aperture to compensate for poor lighting Use prime lens for more creativity Use the light meter for indoor shooting of portraits Focus on details & action Bonce the flash for softer image Using Photo shop is not a cheating Don’t buy more gears until you hit a […]

You need Pro Equipment/ Professional Camera to take Great Pictures Technical perfection creates better images You need to carry lot many lenses for photo walk to capture good pictures. Place the subject at 1/3 point – Rule of Third A normal/standard lens is 50 mm as it deliver about the same view as of human eye There is only one correct angle for exposure Horizontal should be horizontal You can’t shoot pictures when the light is bad UV filter degrade the image Quality ISO 200, 400 produces less quality than ISO 100 You should always use the lowest ISO setting DPI or PPI affects the viewing size on the screen Less Depth of field means more attractive images You cant adjust the white balance of JPEG You need a commercial product for on – Camera Flash Mirror lock up image improves the sharpness of picture Saving JPEG multiple times degrades picture quality High Aperture is needed to get enough Depth of Field to take pictures of the Stars at night IS Image Stabilization & VR Vibration Reduction be turned off when the camera is mounted on TRIPOD/Mono Pod You need to cover the view finder for night photography to prevent […]
